Welcome to Fifth Grade! This is the final year of our students’ Aiken experience. Much of what we do is in preparation for their successful transition to middle school. Our emphasis at this level is on organization, independence, prioritizing assignments, and balancing extra-curricular activities with academic responsibilities. Fifth grade is filled with many new opportunities for personal and academic growth. Our fifth graders take part in the Aiken Safety Patrol, Student Council, Inter-El, morning announcements, and our book buddy and word ring programs with the primary grades. Academic growth is fostered through exciting trips to places such as The Boston Freedom Trail and Noah Webster House. In addition, there are many social activities that promote positive character development, including the Winter Luncheon, the Fifth Grade Dinner, and Wampanoag Country Club.
5th Grade Homework:
Our homework policy centers around the practicing of facts and the reinforcement of skills already taught in the classroom. Students have a homework agenda in which they record their assignments. Homework assignments should take between 30 - 60 minutes each night. In addition, students are expected to read 30 minutes each night. If your child requires more or less time to complete homework assignments, please contact the teacher.
